Microchipping

Microchipping

Microchipping your pet is not only an excellent idea and your pet’s best chance of returning home to you if they become lost, it’s a requirement! Since 2017, mandatory microchipping for all pets over four months of age has replaced the previous registration system in the city of Dallas. This is not only more convenient for you but also dramatically increases the chances that your pet will be returned to you if they ever become lost. Pet microchipping is simple, relatively painless, affordable and can be done anytime. While it can quickly be done as part of a routine procedure like a spay or neuter, it can also be done during a routine vet appointment.

Unlike collars and tags, microchips can’t fall off, and they serve as permanent identification for a pet’s entire life. The chip is the size of a grain of rice and is implanted via injection under the skin between the shoulder blades. The chip is made of an inert, biocompatible material that will not disintegrate, rust, or cause an allergic reaction, and will last the life of your pet. The chip has no power source and does not transmit any information—it’s activated by a short radio wave that a scanner can read. Each chip has a unique code that can be tracked back to your registered information. Once your pet has their microchip, it’s crucial that you keep your contact information current with the chip’s provider, as this ensures that you can quickly and easily be located if your missing pet is found. Simply put, a pet microchip is big peace of mind in a tiny package—and we can help you get one for your pet.
